Hawaii’s current structure for medical marijuana use.

Hawaii Medical Marijuana Use
In Hawaii you can use medical marijuana in your own home and other non-public places if you are a registered patient. It is important to know that registered patients are prohibited from using and or cultivating medical marijuana in any public places.
Hawaii regulations specify that medical marijuana needs to be transported in a sealed container and not made visible to the public. Currently you cannot transport medical marijuana between the islands. In Hawaii it is required that all patients have their registration cards, (known as a 329 Card), on them whenever in possession of medical marijuana.
Vacationing in Hawaii and Medical Marijuana
If you are planning to vacation in Hawaii, and have a legal medical marijuana card issued from another state unfortunately you are currently not allowed to purchase from Hawaii medical marijuana dispensaries. However out of state cardholders will eventually be able to purchase their medicine from a dispensary in Hawaii through the state’s reciprocity program, anticipated as early and 2018.
Purchase Medical Marijuana From a Hawaii Dispensary
Hawaii residents whom are registered medical marijuana patients can purchase marijuana form a Hawaii dispensary. If you want to purchase your medicinal marijuana in a dispensary you are allowed to purchase up to four ounces of marijuana during a fifteen consecutive day period and purchase a maximum of eight ounces of marijuana over a thirty consecutive day period. Growing Medical Marijuana in Hawaii
In the state of Hawaii you are allowed to grow marijuana if you are a registered patient or caregiver. Once in the program you are allowed to grow what is called an “adequate supply” of medical marijuana. This means that you can have no more than seven plants total and possess no more than four ounces of usable marijuana.
Your medical marijuana can be grown at only one grow site location and that location has to be identified on your 329 Card. The grow site must be either the residence of the patient or another site that is either owned or controlled by the qualifying patient.
If the grow site is not designated on your application to the Hawaii Dept. of Health, the medical marijuana that is growing will not be protected under the law until this information is updated with Hawaii DOH.
According to the Hawaii Department of Health “your plants are not properly registered anytime the address on your 329 card does not match the location that your plant’s are growing at.” The state of Hawaii has setup a limited access grow site verification system, however requests for grow site verification must be made first by a designated officer.

Caregiver Information
Under current regulations caregivers will no longer be allowed to grow for patients after December 31, 2018. Exceptions to this rule include, if the patient resides on an island that does not have a dispensary or if the patient is a minor and or adult lacking the legal capacity.
